South Central, PA has some of the best trout water in the state. The beautiful mountains of Cumberland, Fulton, Franklin, and Adams Counties are rich in limestone springs that feed our creeks and keep them running cold enough to support trout throughout the entire year. The predictable hatches on our waters draw fly fishers form near and far. Whether it's early spring, the dog days of summer, autumn foliage, or the dead of winter, our streams consistently produce trout that make the trip to South Central Pennsylvania worth while. Our email address is customtyer@custom-tied.com. We decided to create this web site to increase awareness and help dispel some of the misconceptions that exist about fly fishing. First, Fly Fishing is hard. Not true. Any one can be a Fly Fisher. Why on earth would I hire someone to teach me something that I can learn myself? Good question. I have another for you. Why on earth would I hire someone to teach me how to add or to spell? These are both things that you can learn on your own. Answer: The teacher has helpful and useful techniques that they have developed over the years that they can pass on to the student. This is why we send our children to school, to learn quickly so that they won't have to take the next several years learning the basics. That is what the fly fishing instructor (guide) gives you, the basics. You can learn them on your own, or from a book, but, not nearly as well or as quickly as from someone who has been practicing the craft for an extended period of time. The trip is well worth the fee. You will learn things not just about fly fishing, but, about entomology, nature, and your self. Things that you never even knew that you didn't know. Guided Tours and Lessons. Just as with any other new skill, it takes practice. With that practice comes many hours of joy and success as you become proficient at out witting mother nature herself. Next, and perhaps most outlandish is that the sport is expensive. Again, not so. A fly fishing combination can be had at Wal-Mart for as little as $40.00 or as much as $2000.00 at Orvis. It doesn't much matter to the fish where your out fit came from. The fish are interested in the bug that you have on the end of your line. Look at the top of the page for links to our bugs. A Bit of Information about US
I am a licensed Pennsylvania Fishing Guide, but I consider myself more of an instructor. When we are not out with a client, we can be found out working with the Boy Scouts, or casting in the yard. I first started fly fishing and tying my own flies when I was about 12 years old. That's 30 years ago. I taught Sharon how to fly fish when we were dating. I took her to the "Yellow Breeches" one Saturday where she landed her first Rainbow Trout on a Grey Ghost that she had tied, and she was hooked.
Custom-Tied is only fly-fishing guide service that is recognized and approved by the Boy Scouts of America to teach Fly-Fishing to our communities youth. We have just received our certification from the State of Pennsylvania to teach Fly-Fishing to the youth in Pennsylvania using the SMART program.
We are a Christian based company. There is a reason that Jesus chose fishermen to help him get the word out. So in keeping with that we use Custom-Tied as a ministry to spread the Gospel and help support those that are already in the faith. We are members of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chambersburg, PA.

The majority of the people that I talk to have asked me how much teaching I do on a trip. That depends on the client. I always talk to the client first before we go anywhere or do anything. I always ask how much experience the client has before we go anywhere or do anything. I try to get to know you a bit and strive to make you happy. If you leave after a guided trip and you haven't learned something new, then I haven't done my job. We just had a great development. If you read "Eastern Fly Fishing Magazine", you will find an article about fly-fishing in the East Branch of Antietam Creek, written by our Guide, B. George Hammond. Services
We offer some Special Gifts, Guided Tours and Lessons, and custom-tied Dry Flies, Wet Flies, Midges and Emergers, Nymphs, Terrestrials, and Streamers for sale here at these links. We also offer a Starter Kit with the bugs that we suggest you start with if you are a first timer and don't know what bugs to buy. 6% Pennsylvania State Sales Tax is included in the price of the products that we sell. If you desire to order flies from us, please use the provided pay pal service, there is a $5.00 fee to use this service that is included in the shipping and handling charges. If you are not a member of pay pal you can join for free by going to www.paypal.com. If you do choose to use the pay pal service, please verify your address with me when I email you. I can not count on the shipping address being correct on pay pal. I have had 2 experiences where the address was not correct and the package didn't arrive to the client, then I started verifying shipping addresses via email prior to shipping. If you do not desire to use the paypal service we do accept checks, you may email me directly with your order at customtyer@custom-tied.com. We have an extensive inventory of handsome fish catchers, however, if a special pattern is required and not in the inventory, email me directly with your order. We also offer Gift Certificates. We love to teach people how to make their own bugs. If you do not desire to learn to tie your own, I will be happy to tie any special pattern at no additional cost. Custom-Tied is proud to say that if it walks, flies, crawls, jumps, or swims we can tie it. Please allow at least 72 hours for us to tie your custom order.
4 Fish Guarantee
We here at Custom-Tied are so sure of product's quality and workmanship that we guarantee them against failure. Our flies are tied on Mustad hooks. We are not guarantying your ability to catch 4 fish with each fly. We are, however, telling you that our bugs will last through the fight of at least 4 fish, or 1,000 casts (including false casting), or we will replace the bug. Just return what is left to us, and we will replace it with the same pattern and size, at no cost to you.
