Nothing beats the feeling of happening across a cloud of newly hatched insects. Fish pick the ones that are having trouble getting out of the water to take to the air. As the gas builds in their exoskeleton they rise up through the water column and pop up into that 1/32" portion known as the film. A lot of newly hatching insects get stuck in there and meet their fate. Some walk right out of the water onto a branch, rock, log, or other cover in relative safety while they let the air dry them out and they can break free. Others march up to the bank and go up into the woods way out of harms way. These low riders are designed to sit in the film tempt the fish to eat to their heart's content.
